DSSR Install Manual

DSSR Install Manual

For several years, BMW enthusiasts have recognized that the original BMW shifter rod design has its shortcomings.

The single shear shift rod uses only one side to transfer the motion, which leads to increased wear of bushings, rods, and plastic washers over time.

The double shear selector rod (DSSR) eliminates the issues completely. Our DSSR kit includes everything you will need to take your shifter feel to a different level.

Your package should include:

1X DSSR Link

2X High precision Stainless Steel Shoulder bolts

1X Secret Sauce Kit

2X Stainless Steel Nuts

4X Nylon Washers

Step 1

Safely lift your car and get it in the best possible position… you are going to spend some time under it.

Step 2

Find the Shifter Linkage Assembly (picture below). It is composed of a decent amount of components… the important ones are:

Shifter Assembly

2 - Shift Rod Joint

5 - Selector Rod Clip

6 - Shifter Selector Rod

7 - Shift Lever

9 - Selector Rod Washer

There’s more to it…. but these are all the parts you will interact with for this project.

Step 3

Locate the Selector Rod Joint [2] and Shifter [7], remove the Selector Rod clips [5] with a flat head screwdriver from the Shift Lever [7] and Rod Joint [2].

Step 4

The Shifter Rod [6] can then slide out of both ends and be removed from the vehicle.

Step 5

Replace the Selector Rod [6] with the HRB DSSR; the two Nylon washers are needed to remove metal-to-metal contact and remove the slack in the system; the washers should be installed on the inside of the clevis for both sides. (If you are running an aftermarket shifter, the washers might not be required)

Use the provided shoulder bolts and nuts to secure the DSSR in place.

Take your time to install the washers; it’s a tight fit, but this will guarantee proper fitment and optimal shifter feel. Tighten the nuts until they bottom out on the shoulder of the bolt. Torque to 15 ft-lb.

Step 6

Go for a Test Drive and feel the difference!

Enjoy your new shifting experience!
